Iravil viriyum poo pole – Arike (2012)

This is a wonderful song from the malayalam movie “Arike” sung by Mamta Mohandas and lyrics by Shibu Chakravarthy. There are 2 slightly different versions of the same song which I have added above. Below I have tried my best to translate the song lyrics into English maintaining close proximity to the original lyrics. The film version has an extra paragraph. So let’s begin.

Iravil viriyum poo pole

Pakalil kozhiyum ithal pole

Veruthe anayum mohangal arike

Theliyum munbe mayunnu

Akalathetho nakshathram

Aliyunna mukhilin thundu njaan

Like the flower that blooms at night

Like the petals that falls during day

Suddenly desires get extinguished close to me

Even before it becomes clear, it vanishes

Some star at a distance

Am a piece of the vanishing cloud

Mazhaveena raavazhi thannil

Azhiyum kanavaayi njaan maari

Pulari kathirin viralaalen

mudiyil thazhukaan pakal veendum

Iniyenthinennum varunnu

On the path where rain has fallen

I became the dream that gets trodden

With the fingers of early morning rays

Day is coming to stroke my hair again

Again, why is it still coming daily?

Kaattil pidayum thiri pole

Neeraattil thakarum thira pole

Ilaveyil kaanan poomthanalum thedi

Iniyethra dooram njaan

Alayenam ee vazhi

Like the flame that struggles in the wind

Like the wave that gets broken on the dams

Searching for a shade to see the sunrays

How much distance should I

Wander in this way.
